One quick announcement before we delve into this week's Athlete's Plate.  This is to remind you that there will be the debut of the Athlete's Plate Challenge on Friday.  This is the challenge that was announced on Tuesday where Matt from The Athlete's Plateand I are creating two separate dishes using the same ingredient.  This week's ingredient is Tempeh.  There will be a poll on which dish you like best on the right hand sidebar that will be open from Friday until midnight Sunday.  On Monday another poll will go up wit...

First of all, I would like to thank Jason for letting me do this guest post! My name is Matt and I blog over at The Athlete’s Plate. As a foodie and an athlete, I love to see how other people like me are fueling their workouts. I haven’t been reading Jason’s blog for that long, but “The Athlete’s Plate” on Thursdays is definitely my favorite post series that he does. He always comes up with a creative menu that gives me great meal ideas! I promised Jason that I would come up with a stellar menu...

Thanks to John over at Training Smoker for nominating Thomas of the blog Georgia Snail.  Thomas' blog is full of life.  It is honest and he doesn't hide from the truth or his goals.       I will say that Thomas' menu was the most challenging because he is on a quest to lose 30 pounds and has a list of items that he and his wife want to focus on eating.  Brown rice, sweet potatoes, spinach, romaine, nuts, fruits and veggies.  I would toss all of that in a bowl and eat it but then we wouldn't have the Athlete's...

A quick announcement that ch-ch-changes are coming.  The look and feel of this blog will be changing in a major way in the very near future but do not worry as you will be able to still find me through the http://www.baha703ironman.com/ URL as well as the new one (not releasing the name yet.)  It is going to highlight my true passions which are cooking and eating as well as training and racing.  I am so excited and doing my best to not reveal anything but you will love it to. I received a preview shot last night and I am in LOVE ...

I would like to thank Rita Barry of Fitblogger for designing the logo for The Athlete's Plate.  The gold wings represent quite a bit to me.  They represent the gold wings for Boston as well as the headdress that the Greeks wore when they won the Gold Medals as well as the winner of Kona. Fitblogger was also kind of enough to post my menus on a weekly basis.  Thank you very much to Rita. In addition to a new logo I have also created a new Facebook page for The Athlete's Plate.  Click here and be taken to t...

Tomorrow is race day.  Typically I go into this type of race with a laissez-faire attitude of just run it.  Never put a lot into it and just ran.  Whatever the outcome was the outcome was.  Well that all changed when I signed up for Athlinks.  Right there for the whole world to see were my results.  Some of those races were done to pace others, some just for fun but all of a sudden the competitor in me kicked in and I'm staring results in the face.  So after I ran my training run last week of 9.3 miles (Coach ...

Before we get into the nominee and the menu for today's Athlete's Plate I have two items I need to address. 1- Marathon Makeover is proud and thrilled to announce that Ada Wong is our newest Team Leader and National Spokesperson.  You will recognize her name from that show that she was on where she lost all the weight and ran a swift marathon. 2- Does anybody know of anybody or themselves have artistic talent to create a cartoonish looking Athlete's Plate as logo?  Would love to have it for my weekly installments but also for the book...

Athlete's Plate - December 30, 2010 This is the last Athlete's Plate of 2010 and it is perfect to end the year with a menu dedicated to Lindsay from Chasing the Kenyans.  If you have not been to her blog, go but not until you are done reading all of my posts, then go as fast as you can.  Lindsay is an extremely funny person.  She is creative in an artsy way.  She can draw, she can rap, she makes videos, she can move boxes from cubicle to cubicle.  But most of all she can run.  That name (Chasing the Kenyans) is no...

Lucas over at The Super Fatlete is putting on a virtual 70.3 race that started on 12/20 and ends on Christmas Eve.  What a great way to keep the competitive juices flowing and training through the holidays. Today he announced a catch to this virtual race of his.  The catch was that if you ate cookies, brownies, cake or pie you were penalized.  Another great way to avoid the sweets although the penalty is 1:00 for 3 cookies.  Depending on where I am at in terms of time on at 11:30pm on 12/24 I might take that one minute pen...

So as I was getting ready to peruse through the nominated blog tonight and begin to build the ideas for an Athlete's Plate based on that blogger when I remembered that I was given a Holiday Cookbook by Chico's teacher when I picked him up the other day.  Karen and I have gone through this many times and laugh each and every time.Go through the menu and let me know your favorite.   Chico on the cover....that boy has some cooking gear!!!!     Chocolate Chip Cookies and Chicken Pizza C...

ATHLETE'S PLATE - DECEMBER 16, 2010 In the third installment of the Blogger Athlete's Plate menu I am presenting Beth from Shut Up and Run.  Beth is an open book to say the least.  When I informed her that she had been nominated by Q she was excited and essentially told me that everything was fair game.  If you have never been to her blog, and I doubt that you haven't as she has over 1000 followers, then let me just say this:  BRUTALLY HONEST. Beth is open about everything us runners go through and not just about runn...

Thursday is the day that I reveal the newest installment of the Athlete's Plate and that is still the case.  Tomorrow there will be a full menu dedicated to Beth over at Shut Up and Run.  You all know Beth and her ability to let it all hang out and well this menu has been difficult to create because of that.  There aren't many hidden gems in her blog to use for a menu but I have 4 of the 5 meals created and just looking for one more to finish off the menu and reveal it tomorrow for you.In the meantime go to her blog and butter he...

ATHLETE'S PLATE - DECEMBER 9, 2010   Today's Athlete's Plate is going to be titled....Q on the Menu... in honor of Q over at Q on the Move...  The menu came to be created after him because he was nominated by EMZ after her menu was created on November 24, 2010.   I follow Q's blog and am always lifted by his humor and his ability to be down to earth with his family and training.  He never seems to sway one way or the other in terms of emotions and keeps it on the level.  Whenever I am stressed out about my step-son ...

ATHLETE'S PLATE - 12/2/2010   Today's Athlete's Plate is brought to you by a guest chef.  The menu was created by Liz from Food to Run For.  Liz is very talented in the kitchen as evidenced by this menu but go to her blog and take a look at the Thanksgiving feast she prepared.  The menu was incredible and all the pics make you feel like you are a part of her family getting ready to gorge on grub.  Hop on over to her blog and check out the pics of her creations and then make the meal yourself.   Remember that we...

ATHLETE'S PLATE - NOVEMBER 24, 2011 I am doing the AP one day early because of the holiday tomorrow and figured you would all be at the table eating after your morning Turkey Trot and so would not have the opportunity to check out the AP for the week.   This week's menu was inspired by EMZ.  I used the things that I know about her to create this menu and it was a challenge but tons of fun.  So there are meals that work around EMZ letters, meals that involve Peanut and Pita....and ABs and Belt Buckles....maybe PRR.....scroll do...

Before I provide you with 5 meals to help you through the day I have to confess to the fact that I watch Cougar Town and laugh out loud for 30 minutes.  Karen and I watched it last night, which is unusual for us.  We typically watch it on Thursday on DVR before the gut wrenching Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice.  Yes, I watch those as well.  So you got 3 confessions out of me just now, but hey I am an open book and willing to share who I am.   -------------------------   ATHLETE'S PLATE - NOVEMBER 18, 2010 ...
