Today is Halloween. The holiday, that I have no idea how/where it started, where people feel the necessity to get dressed up as something that they are not.
As a kid it was great as you got out the pillow case and went door to door begging for candy and people happily obliged. Of course you would run into the few houses that passed out pennies and/or candied apples. You always knew which house that was and never went anywhere near that house the next year.
So this year my step-son is going as a soldier and it got me thinking as to what I would wear as a costume when I was a kid. I remember one year going as Rambo with a tarp draped over me with a red bandana and a plastic knife. The majority of the time I would go as a sports figure. I was Gary Carter (C for the Mets in the ’80s) or Lawrence Taylor (LB for the Giants in the ’80s) or some other sports figure.
As an adult who do I look up to in the world of sports. The answer was almost immediate: Christopher McCormack (bravado and ability), Craig Alexander (sheer ability), Chrissie Wellingon (silent assassin with a smile), Mirinda Carfrae (she runs with grace and beauty) and there are others, especially the age grouper.
My thought was to go out with Chico as a triathlete but that would have been too easy. I googled halloween triathlete and came across an article in The Examiner and it was hilarious and perfect all at the same time. You can click [HERE] to see the article or read below for the costumes you can create with the items in your tri-bag.

Ok I have a confession. I hate halloween! Even as a kid I thought this is dumb. My kids love it because they get to eat candy ! LOL

I never got it after high school. Could have cared less in college but now with a 5 year old it is cool to go and see the kids in their costumes. I will probably not dress up and just walk around with him. I just want all the candy thrown out after the day is over.
Yes I agree for the little ones its fun, but I hate seeing older kids with blood running down their faces. I know.. bah hum bug. The candy? Drives me nuts!!!

The 16 year old kids who don’t even try get nothing from me. I tell them to try again the next year. If the kids are smart they come to my house around 6-7p as I start dumping the candy so it leaves my house.
HAHA!!!! Try again! That’s awesome!

I think I’ll just wear my newbie swim costume. The one with the black bathing suit, large white underwear showing and googles. Scares the kids away everytime and makes my son really unpopular at school.
Ohmigosh these are hysterical!!!!
I’m dressed up as a disgruntled employee/despicable Marlene… just my everyday uniform!
Happy Halloween, Friend!!!

Wait, you get candy on Halloween? Had I known that in the late 70′s/early 80′s I would have left the eggs and toilet paper at home.
I literally had to take the morning off to finish carving Ian’s HR Giger inspired pumpkins – give that kid a sharpie and a 12″ pumpkin and you get about 2 hours work back in return.
Now I have to go on Spotify and find some “scary but not too scary music so the little kids don’t get scared” music to download and play at the front door later tonight.

These are great! I’m just wearing a big ‘ole silly grin at the prospect of running again. Thanks, as always, for your support and for cheering me on!

i loved beth (b.o.b’s) outfit – worked to death. i don’t dress up for halloween. the last time i did was in college and i dressed up as a frat boy. very easy costume, and not scandalous.
