Ironman Texas Training VLOG – Week #5

5 weeks of training are done and in the books.  My first reaction to this is:  Holy $h*t this is going by fast and will I be ready for the 140.6 come mid-May.  My second reaction is:  This has been a lot of fun and I’m learning more and more about my body everyday and that can never be taken away from me.

This training has been completely different for me in terms of my mindset.  I want to get to the starting line healthy but I also know that it is going to be a long day and I have to pace myself properly.  With that I have been enjoying truly heart rate training and seeing splits drop while heart rate stays the same.  I am getting faster while exerting the same amount of energy and that means I am more efficient in my form.

Before you view the video I want to let you know of two things:

1- I will be hosting a virtual race this year from February 6th through March 5th.  I am rounding up sponsors and have some great gifts for a lot of people.  This year’s race will be for charity and that charity is Shape Up America.  I will be revealing details in the next few days so stay tuned for that.

2- CTER sponsors Boundless Nutrition was gracious enough to provide me with entry into the Dallas Rock N Roll Half Marathon.  I’m very excited to add this race to my schedule since I have never run it.  Karen has run it the two years it has been held and I have navigated the streets of Dallas to see her every 3 or so miles and cheer her on.  This year we will be running it together thanks to the folks at Boundless Nutrition.  When I say run together I mean it since this will be one week after 70.3 Puerto Rico and going out and trying to set a PR is not on the books for me but maybe getting Karen to a PR at this distance is.

    You are an OLD FART!!! ( I have a wii fit age of 25!)

    Dude, you gotta relax a bit in these VLogs. Your head does not move ONCE in these haha. You look like you are in a full body cast. Zoom out a touch and make them more natural and not so regimented. I feel nervous watching them for some reason haha.

    I don’t ride outside if its 55 or below. No point haha.

    You called the hardhat a helmet! Those bricklayers might be coming after you ;)

      Seriously thought I was going to throw the remote at the TV when that thing said 52. WTF! I am way more fit today than I was when I was 25 that’s for damn sure.

      Between bricklayers unions and slowtwitch I’ll need to move now…..ha ha!

      I will work on my video skills for next week. The pain in the a$$ is that I’m using my laptop so I have to reach across to hit all the buttons. I need a remote for my laptop.

    When you coming down to ride the IMTX course? Let me know and I’ll try and get a few guys together, safer in a group with all the Grimes County Bubbas around.

    My IM training kicks off March 5th so will be on that course quite often after that.

      I am thinking that once I get past Puerto Rico I’ll be coming down there a few times. PR is in mid-march so it might tie in nicely with your IM training as well.

      I am looking for the Pure Cadence to go with the Launch and T7s as well as the Adidas AdiZeros for a really nice rotation of shoes at this point. No foot pain AT ALL right now and I think it is the switching of shoes depending on distance and exertion that is really helping.

      This ring of course has a story to it. This is not my original wedding ring as I lost that on a training ride in Austin last summer.

      Karen and I bought these rings in Cozumel for $10 or so and when I lost the original I reverted to this one and have been wearing it ever since. One day I’ll go get a nicer ring but I’m growing quite fond of this one now.

    i guess 52 explains that spot on the back of your head! ;) very cool about the dallas rnr entry. i know you will be a good pacer/sherpa for karen.

    you are so serious about your training. in a good way of course. just the vibe i get from this video and how you are talking about your training of the week.

      The way this week’s training is going it won’t be that serious of a vlog.
