Ironman Texas Training – Week #4 VLOG

Week #4 of training is in the books and the week had a few successes.  I was able to swim the 1,000 yard TT at a pace of 1:45/100y and the beauty was that I swam 1,050 yards at that pace.  I am very excited about that and think that I can still go lower than that to probably 1:42 per 100 yards.

In addition to the success on the swim I have been working hard on pacing for both 70.3 Puerto Rico and for Ironman Texas.  Taking in a bunch of advice about not starting to fast and being prepared to walk I have been training to do just that.  I am setting out on my runs that are short at :15 slower than my goal pace for Puerto Rico.  If it is a longer run than I am going out at :30 slower than my goal pace for Texas.  Once I hit a heart rate of 160 I bring the pace back down so that my heart rate slows.  The benefits are evident as I’m running right at the target pace for both races when the run is done.

My legs feel good and as of today I still have all of my brain cells.  The week coming up is going to test that notion but I’m ready to become the Athlete I Want To Be.  The bricks in that wall are starting to stack and it is strong.

How Is Your Training Coming Along?

    hot shoes-like ‘em

I used to like you until you had to rub it in my face that it’s 15 below freaking zero and you’re out riding your bike in 70* weather. *making rude hand gesture*
    :)

    Book exchange sounds awesome!

Go Giants :) Not the Jets but….close enough.

Looking forward to the book exchange! If you saw my horribly long book review post last week, you’d see that I’ve been pretty lucky to find several good reads at my local library and another library about 40 min away. Working on 50/50 right now. I can think of several that I would totally buy for a giveaway/exchange though. The triathlon world has some super-inspiring folks!

Also interested in the virtual races. I’ve only done 5K’s virtually so far, but if I could break it up, I’d like to tackle going farther. Not physically ready to do it all in one day yet.

Side notes: Your hats crack me up. Lovely pic of you and your wife. Long overdue some professional photos of my family.

The virtual race will certainly take place over the course of a few weeks if not a month as nobody should try to do it all in one day unless they are actually racing during that time frame.

Thanks for the comment about the picture. It is one of our favorites. The hats are going to keep happening and I hope you keep laughing at them.

Question… why is there no lamp shade on your lamp behind you?!

Good stuff here. Just switched out my shoes too… (SHHHHHH, it’s a secret, don’t tell anyone that I have been running w/ no IT issues for 3 weeks! OMG! ) haha.

Just for the record, I hate your weather. I do NOT envy you. (not really, I just try to tell myself that so I feel better ;) ).

    Keep up the great work.

P.S. I reported you to slowtwitch… you are screwed now!

That is not a lamp. That is a candle holder and the woman is in a Yoga pose (Tree Pose) and you put a candle in that little cup at the top of her hands.

HA HA…..yeah remember this conversation when April rolls around and its already 90* here and you are still in 65* weather.

I am going to take down my site so ST doesn’t come over here and tell me my seat post is too high or that I shouldn’t lift weights but instead ride my bike for 8 hours a day, work for 3 a day and then run for 5 hours b/c the only way to get better is to just stop working and only train……

That is my diploma from undergraduate school at SUNY-Oswego. I have my MBA diploma somewhere I just have no clue where. That is probably the one I should have mounted (TWSS)

I had no clue that there was a WC 5150…..learn something new everyday.

I did see that somebody, not sure if WTC or not, is trying to get a 2575 series going.

I personally am bummed not to see the white goggles! So good swimming this week. And do we have to go over the proper temps again for beanie wearing? ; )

Love the yellow shoes! My favorite color. And if they keep you out of ART, they’re worth it!

My goal in ART is to bite through my lip, cry and fart all at the same time. Love the shoes and the beanie. Glad training is going so well.

Good numbers again buddy, you are doing great!

Let me know how the Launch work out for you. I noticed a TON of them on runners this weekend at the marathons. Just keep up rotating a few shoes with different drops and your body will thank you with fast splits.

Let me know when you are planning to come down and ride the IMTX course. Dave and I start IMMT training on March 5th so any weekend after that will probably find us up there doing hill repeats. I can give a guided tour of course.

Everyone knows tri-thugs don’t use lamp shades, but they DO pull the Saucony hat down tight. Nice volume homie.
