New Bi-Weekly Feature?

Make This, Don’t Buy That

It was not long ago that I created a Yogurt Parfait to compete with what was sold at Starbucks.  It sparked some conversation regarding eating at home or making it yourself versus buying it at the store.  I started to think about what other things we consume that would not take much to create, probably cost the same and give us piece of mind regarding the ingredients.

With that being said I am planning on adding to The Athlete’s Plate on Thursdays by creating a Make This, Don’t Buy That post on a bi-weekly basis on Mondays.  This will give me the opportunity to purchase the product at the store over and create the homemade version and taste test it, compare it and write a post about it.

What Do You Think Of This Idea?  Do You Have An Interest In It?

And allow me to clarify for one moment.  I am talking about making a product that is in comparison to something that we all consume.  Maybe a protein bar?  Or quite possibly a bag of ‘healthy’ chips?

I have a product in mind for the first foray into this project but I am going to open this up to you for a vote.

This is going to be a fun experiment and I don’t expect to win each time as my choices in ingredients may not work well together, but hey it is worth a try because if it does come out better then you can all share in my exploits.

    I love Larabars, though, so dang expensive, then when I noticed there was only 3 ingredients on the back, I thought “How hard can it be” So i learned how to make my own larabars for a fraction of the cost and MINE taste better

    I voted for the Luna bar since it seems like the Lara bars are pretty easy to make and a lot of people have already figured out how to make them on their own. I’d like to see products that are really good, but more difficult like a Pure Protein bar, a Clif bar, or a Powerbar Performance bar! I know you have the skill!

    You’re always coming up with cool ideas. I really like this one. I had a hard time choosing. I really love the Z bars and so do my kids, so that’s the one I went with. could you do one for DQ’s cookie dough blizzard? Oh screw it. I ‘ll just get the real thing after one of my bricks.
