[caption id="attachment_9650" align="alignright" width="259"] Source: Running Warehouse[/caption] Rapa Nui.  No clue what it means but I can give you my interpretation in the same amount of characters:  Love ‘Em. It is no secret that I am a Hoka One One shoe wearer and unofficial brand ambassador.  I say unofficial because Hoka has not contacted me to write blog posts and deliver social media updates about my glowing and growing praise for the shoes.  This time around I will be giving you my review of the Rapa Nui, which i...

Altra Torin is a zero drop shoe I purchased when the Lake Martin 100 Ultra Trail race ended.  I had the idea that getting into a zero drop shoe would be a good idea because of the varying drop I currently have in my shoe rotation.  I am running in Hoka One One Stinson, Bondi B and Mafate as well as the Brooks Launch.  All of these shoes have different heel to toe drops thus allowing different muscles in my feet and legs to get a workout and thus build a stronger lower body. I chose the Altra Torin because it was on sale and figured it wou...

Hoka OneOne…..what is there to say?  These shoes have been a revelation for my feet, ankles, calves, hamstrings/quads, glutes and hips.  Let us not forget the mind because without these there would have been days that I would have contemplated not running at all because the body felt to beat up to lace up the shoes and hit the roads again. When I first started using the Hoka OneOne brand it was with the Stinson and Mafate, which I reviewed here, but then I realized that the miles would be piling up as I headed toward Lake Martin 100.  W...

Hoka One One came into my life about 2-3 years ago when Jeff showed them to us via social media.  My face looked like the Nile River with a cascade of tears from laughing so hard.  I immediately started calling him Neil Armstrong because they looked like moon boots.  Not long after that Kevin began sporting them.  The raves and reviews permeated every conversation.  I would hear things like: I recover so much faster. I do not feel the pounding on my legs like I do with my other shoes. The incessant chanting of positive thoughts wa...

[caption id="attachment_9009" align="alignright" width="259"] The System covers college football from rape to boosters and everything in between,[/caption] The System came to my knowledge while reading the MMQB on Sports Illustrated by Peter King.  From the moment I read the brief description I knew this book was going to be purchased and that I would gobble it up in days not months like some books.  I could not have been more correct about my assumption.  At one point I tweeted that I could not stop reading the book and would n...

[caption id="attachment_8987" align="alignright" width="263"] Mark Bittman and his book VB6Source: Eat Your Books[/caption] VB6 is a book written by Mark Bittman that the Endurance Foodies chose to read and review but unfortunately we have not been able to get together for a Google Hangout review so I am going to give you my take on the book.  I chose to read VB6 or Vegan Before Six because I have always found Mark Bittman to be very interesting in both his writing and on his television show.  His take on eating a healthy diet ha...

[caption id="attachment_8722" align="alignright" width="183"] Against The Odds by John Pendergrass[/caption] Disclaimer: The book Against The Odds was sent to me by the author but no money exchanged hands and I was not asked for a positive review in exchange for the book. Book reviews are not something I do quite often but one of the benefits of writing a triathlon blog and being on social media is you get the opportunity to be contacted by people and companies looking for a review from you.  The better part of that equation for me is pi...

[caption id="attachment_8685" align="alignright" width="280"] The Tru Glass Top Waffle Maker[/caption] The Tru Glass Top Waffle Maker was a true steal of a deal for me.  As some of you may know Karen and I sold our house and downsized into a town house (which by the way was the best decision ever made - other than marrying her) and with any move comes trips to Bed, Bath & Beyond and Home Depot if we have enough time. As luck would have it we were in Bed, Bath and Beyond looking for new containers for our Magic Bullet and I can't help...

Triathlon Anatomy by Mark Klion,MD and Troy Jacobson Book Review   [caption id="attachment_7703" align="alignright" width="301"] Troy Jacobson - Triathlon Coach[/caption] Triathlon Anatomy has a great title and authors.  The lure was cast and the hook went in deep and I purchased as soon as I could based on these two items.  Unfortunately I could not wiggle off the line and finished the book more disappointed than happy to have purchased it.  The book has terrific illustrations and great ideas but there is nothing new in ...

Before I start Let me apologize for any misspellings or odd phrases as I am typing this on my iPad and it is not easy.  Once the laptop returns to its home we will be back to posting once per day during the week.  Thank you for your patience. Here are the fine 5 of links for this week: There is high-fructose corn syrup in there? - now I know that HFCS is in just about anything but it was slide 6 in this sideshow that just made me shake my head and ask why. Diet Wine?  - isn't the point of a glass of wine to relax you?  To enjoy wi...

You cannot make up some of the stuff we see in the news, or what makes for news these days.  There is a Presidential race going on that will decide the future of America but today while perusing my favorite websites I came across article after article that were front and center and above any discussion of the Presidential election coming in November.  It was so amazing to me that I figured I might just post the stuff you cannot make up on this blog every Friday and allow my readers to add their own findings to the list in the comments section...

[caption id="attachment_6422" align="alignright" width="300"] Source: Daily News[/caption] Restaurant Man is a book I found after reading and reviewing Yes Chef by Marcus Samuellson and I came to enjoy it from the very beginning.  Why?  Well here is why: As many of you know I am composed of the following amongst other things: New Yorker Foodie Triathlete When I saw that Joe Bastianich (of Master Chef fame) wrote a book I quickly purchased it.  Joe is a New Yorker, a foodie/wine enthusiast, and a triathlete.  I was...

[caption id="attachment_6270" align="alignright" width="278"] Source: Tadias[/caption] Yes, Chef is a book written by Marcus Samuelsson that I just finished reading and couldn't wait to get my review out to you all that I pushed it to today.  You may think that from the title this is just a recipe book, but you couldn't be further from the truth.  This book is not just a story about a chef but really about any immigrant to America who works hard and pushes their way to the top of the mountain only to have that mountain ...

[caption id="attachment_6262" align="alignright" width="200"] Lance Armstrong Sporting The Oakley Jawbone[/caption] Oakley Split Jacket sunglasses.....have you ever seen them?  Of course you have.  Lance wears them.  You know the ones with the yellow on the bottom to match his Livestrong company colors.  You have probably seen them on more than just Lance and wondered, like I did, if they were worth the hype and in the end really the cost.  I fortunately, or unfortunately, happened to be in the market for sunglasses and started shopping...

[caption id="attachment_5979" align="alignright" width="259" caption="Guess Karen's Time at the RnR San Diego 1/2 Mary To Win"][/caption] As you know - I am not a big fan of race belts on the run.  They tend to ride up on me and end up sitting under my chest like an oversized heart rate monitor... not good for race pictures but awesome for a laugh. I thought it would be good to invent something simple that could carry my fuel, and my keys and any money.. and of course the same week I came up with this brilliant idea, I saw the RooSport...
