Aspaeris Pivot Short Since I have become a Tough Chik, I have branched out and been able to try new products. My most recent product purchase was the Aspaeris Pivot Shorts™   I have worn compression pants and capris in the past, and loved them but had several issues with the seams on them splitting in various places, and after numerous exchanges, and returns, I gave up on them.  When I saw that the Tough Chiks were getting these - I figured I should at least give it a shot. I ordered the basic black pair and got them within a week. I rec...

Where do I begin with this review.  I found Iron War by Matt Fitzgerald [caption id="attachment_5184" align="alignright" width="252" caption="Dave Scott - Mark Allen in the 1989 Ironman"][/caption] to be just incredible and not only because of the storytelling of the greatest Ironman race ever but because of the scientific information that came with it.  I have read Chris McCormack's book I'm Here To Win as well as the book  You Are An Ironman and Iron War is better than both. For those that don't know Iron War took place in 1989...

As the weather continues to get colder (although it was 67* here yesterday) time on the trainer is increasing.  Just like the treadmill I need something to take my mind off of riding on the trainer.  When you are spending 1 hour to 3 hours staring at your garage door time can seem to stand still.  If I am doing a set that requires an increase in heart rate then I am riding to The Sufferfest and pushing by legs to the brink and dripping in sweat.  If training calls for staying in the aerobic state, which for me is a heart rate of 135-145 th...

Are you part of the Run With Jill Blogger Gift Exchange?  I was a part of this last year and had a blast with it.  I was fortunate enough to draw Aimee of I Tri To Be Me, who was one of the first blogs I followed and continue to follow to this day because she has great recipes (maybe today we will get a Humpastry Day recipe.) This year I was very fortunate to draw, oh you didn't think I would let the cat out of the bag did you?  I have been diving into this person's blog head first to figure out what would work for them and trying to matc...

I finished reading the book You Are An Ironman a few weeks ago but put off writing the review as I wanted to let what I just read to marinate in my mind and see if there was some profound effect on me.  For me a good book leaves me thinking even after I have started my next book.  This book did leave me thinking but I think it was a scenario that was compounded by a few other forces and not necessarily the book alone. This book, written by Jacques Steinberg, follows the story of 6 everyday age-groupers as they prepare for and race Ironman ...

[caption id="attachment_4861" align="alignright" width="230" caption="Vega Sport Sampler Pack"][/caption] Vega Sports Nutrition contacted me and asked if I would like to review their product.  As a vegetarian I was instantly interested in seeing these products first hand.  I had seen advertisements for them as well as had seen that Brendan Brazier had created the product.  Mr Brazier is a vegan professional triathlete who has an 8th place finish at Ironman Utah in 2002.  He is also the author of Thrive: A Guide to Optimal Health and Per...

I have been clamoring for the Speedfil A2 ever since I saw the product on the Speedfil Facebook page.  I commented on their wall multiple times trying to find out when it was going to be sold to the public.  I was excited to find out that September 1st would be the day of its release.  With a late season schedule that included 2 Olympic distance triathlon and 70.3 Austin this would be a great way to train and practice for using a product I would be sure to use during Ironman Texas. I have had the A2 for a few weeks now and wanted to put i...

If you have been a regular to this blog then you will know that my goal is eat as healthy as I can on a daily basis while combining exercise so that I can live the longest healthiest life I can.  I am raising money to fight obesity (Donate Button right over there to the right) and doing what I can to spread the word of diet and exercise. I was contacted recently by the PR Firm for Marathon Bar and asked if I would like to sample some and do a review.  Being a sucker for free stuff how could I say no.  I was told it was different from the Marathon Energy and Marathon Protein Bars so why not. The package came with 8 bards (2 of each flavor: Crunchy Multi Grain, Crunchy Chocolate Crisp, Crunchy Honey Graham and Crunchy Trail Mix.)  I also received a fact sheet and a press release. The fact sheet says that the Smart Stuff brand is a healthful snacking solution that provide...

A few months ago I was contacted by Bull Publishing about reviewing the book Nutrition Periodization for Athletes by Bob Seebohar and I could not turn down the opportunity to review the book.  Just the words nutrition and athletes in the title alone led me to saying yes before the question was finished being asked. Once I got the book I couldn't wait to read it and all of this excitement was based on Bob Seebohar's resume.  Read Bob's resume right here: Bob Seebohar, M.S., R.D., C.S.S.D., C.S.C.S., is one of the first Board Certified Sp...

[caption id="attachment_3317" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Products from GU, Recharge and Marathon Bars"][/caption] When I was at the Fitness and Health Bloggers Conference in Boulder, Colorado back in June one item that I learned that really piqued my interest was to host a meetup of friends, family and other athletes from the area to test products out and try to put together a review for the companies.  Of course, in order to make this happen you have to check the schedule of those you want to invite, check your schedule for tr...

As you may or may not know I was in beautiful Boulder, Colorado this past weekend for the Fitness and Health Bloggers Conference 2011 and all I can come up with in all my great vocabulary is:  WOW!  Your first thought/question is most likely:  Why WOW?  Tell me more about this conference as I want to be amazed as well. Let's start out with the fact that the conference took place in Boulder, Colorado.  Home of the athlete.  If I am not mistaken I believe this is/was considered the healthiest city in the United States.  I could not find...

I cannot remember the last time I wrote a book report, but here I am presenting to you my views, reviews and thoughts of the book I'm Here To Win: A World Champion's Advice for Peak Performance by Chris McCormack and Tim Vandehey. I was excited to crack the binding on this book as I am always looking for a way to get better and what's a better way to learn how to get better than to learn from a 2x World Champion.  Chris' antics have rubbed people the wrong way because of his cockiness but truth be told it never bothered me.  For me if you ...

Welcome to the first video review at Cook Train Eat Race.  I have decided to put this review into a video format.  While it is not perfect I chose to do it in only one take so that you get my true feelings toward Brad's Raw Chips.  There are a few slip ups in terms of words and pronunciation.  There is a time or two where I close my eyes instead of keeping them open for the camera but being that this is my first video I will take it and hopefully get better each and every time. Watch the video and then enter to win a prize pack worth mor...

Triathlete Buyer’s Guide Review   Before I begin my review of the Triathlete Buyer’s Guide I want to thank Rita Barry for thinking of me to review the guide as well as Triathlete Magazine for allowing me to review their guide. The Triathlete Buyer’s Guide is a magazine that allows triathletes, both beginners and podium finishers, to get a look at reviews of 298 different products.  Think that 298 products is a lot?  Consider that there are products I own that were not even in the magazine, but you can g...

As you know by now I am forever looking out for new products to help me become a better endurance athlete.  I will try anything.  I will buy a one off product at the store just because it is new, never saw it before, never heard of it, never saw it on Twitter or Facebook and want to learn more about it. It was with this mindset that I contacted Vixi Bar after we began following each other on Twitter.  I reached out to the person behind the account and asked if I could give their bars a review since I had not heard of them before.  The re...

Have you ever thought to yourself that this must be too good to be true?  It happens to me all the time in that I believe that my life is too good to be true, even in the hardest of times.  I have the opportunity to reach out to people through this site and via social media in terms of Facebook and Twitter. So when I was going through Facebook one day I came across an advertisement for Tri-Clips.  I went to their site and watched the demos and thought to myself…'those are too good to be true.'  How can something so simple be so awesome...

I have been spending a lot of time in the water lately and it certainly has paid off.  When I first started training for the 70.3 California I would say, kindly, that I was a train wreck.  Legs were hanging low, I wasn't catching or pulling, I was trying to muscle my way through the water.  I would be gassed after about 25 yards.  Lots of time in the water has improved my 100 yard times from 2:05/100y to 1:50/100y consistently.  Yesterday I had a swim training session and I swam 4x150 in an average of 2:37 and while I was breathing heavy ...

[caption id="attachment_2097" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="The new Rojo Vivo"][/caption] As those of you that follow me know I have a burning desire to get faster on the bike.  I know that this is where I can make up significant ground and the majority of that will come from training.  There are other areas that can help me improve bike speed and that is with equipment. For 70.3 IMCA I borrowed a pair of Zipp 404s and I could tell the difference right away compared to my stock wheels.  I had to return then and since then I ha...
