[caption id="attachment_4940" align="alignright" width="259" caption="M-Dot Tattoo integrated into tribal band"][/caption] Being sick yesterday caused a lot of TV watching.  By the way there is nothing good on TV during the day.  I flipped on Real Housewives of New York to see if I could recognize areas of New York and before I knew it all I was watching was 6 (I believe it was hard to keep count) yelling and crying and being what seemed to be leading a life that I would think was not a happy one. Fortunately for me because the TV was s...

Ironman Texas is a total of 21 weeks away and being a planner I am starting to think about how to race that day.  It may seem early to be thinking about that but the reason I am thinking about it is because I train the way that I race.  If I can eliminate as many surprises for that day as I can the more successful I will be.  This is why I will be practicing my nutrition and hydration now so there are no GI issues later.  Planning is what I do and then going out and executing that plan to the best of my ability lets me know if it was a succ...

It was just a couple of days ago that I wrote about the Pain Community that Mr Atkinson refers to in terms of triathletes.  He believes that we will push ourselves past a point of suffering because we want to feel alive in today's world.  We will endure suffering that the average person will not work their way through and it was just yesterday when I became the Mayor of this Pain Community if for only 2 hours.  It was during the second hour of my trainer ride while watching The Sufferfest - A Very Dark Place that I could feel a small tear st...

I am in the process of reading Iron War by Matt Fitzgerald and I am enjoying it very much.  There is some controversy surrounding the book because of the lawsuit filed by Dave Scott and Mark Allen against the author.  I'm not going to give you a review of the book since I have not finished it and whether you choose to read the book or not there is one chapter (Chapter 4) that is titled Pain Community.  This one chapter gripped me so much that I have read it twice and I do not think that will be the last time I read it. Do you remember art class and how much fun it was?  You got to paint whatever you wanted and you couldn't be wrong b/c it was your interpretation of the object in front of you?  Art was always fun for me and while I can't draw or paint I enjoy because it allows me to express myself.  I guess this blog is a form of art since I get to express myself with my points of view and while others may think I am wrong or agree with me 100% in the end this is my interpretation of the object in front of me. I am in Charlotte, North Carolina visiting my mother for a few days so my posts may be sporadic as I'm trying to take in as much time with her, her boyfriend, my sister, and my nephew.  It's been nearly 2 years since I have been here and I am cherishing every moment I have with them. This morning I set out on a one hour run and from the first step to the last it was as if I had never seen this part of where she lives.  I have run here before, but because it has been so long none of it looked familiar and I enjoyed it all.  The smell of pi...

Today on my run I was thinking a lot about what 2011 meant to me and what I have coming up in 2012.  On a cool crisp day I was out there for an hour with nothing but my thoughts and I smiled the entire time.  2011 was just a terrific year in terms of racing and one that provided lots of challenges and a way for me to learn to overcome those challenges.  As I put my 2012 race calendar together I realized how much better 2012 was going to be and self high-fived myself. Here is a recap of what happened in 2011: Started the year with an e...

The offseason has now officially begun for me and that means that the focus is on form.  Form in all three disciplines will help me become more efficient and eventually faster.  I have been practicing my form in the pool for about two weeks now, ever since I was directed to Mr Smooth.  I have watched that little 3D image multiple times over and especially the night before I head to the pool in the morning.  By focusing on form I have been able to shave seconds off of my 100y times in those two weeks.  It is amazing to me how I can swim fas...

Viva Las Vegas by Karen Bahamundi I decided to write a race recap about my events in Vegas, but then decided to share my life events leading up to Vegas instead - so reversing back to one year ago.... I had run my first marathon on 12/4/2010- not a great time, but it was done, and the WHOLE time my face hurt.  My awesome trainer (Claudia Spooner) was surprised this is what hurt but turns out I had a sinus infection and double ear infection. After this event.. I kept getting sick over and over during the new year but pushed through and ke...
