Ironman Texas training has entered some zone but I'm not sure what zone.  These past two weeks have been filled with races and hardly any taper or recovery.....it has been bananas, and I have eaten my fair share of bananas.  I may have to track my banana consumption alone to see how much it really is because I know it is at least one per day. So where do we start with Ironman Texas training?  Oh, how about words from my Coach after 70.3 San Juan.  This is not verbatim but I think you will get the point: I have aggressive goals for yo...

This 70.3 San Juan goals post has been written and re-written then deleted and resurrected more times than Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees but I'm finally putting it out there.  You saw the time I am shooting for in the Ironman Texas Training Video - Week 12 but I am going to break it down and provide you (really me) rationale for why it will happen.  When you get around to reading this post I will be in the air on the way back to the Mother Land in the anticipation of setting a PR in PR. Swim: The swim is the discipline that I have ...

[caption id="attachment_5491" align="alignright" width="297" caption="Which Would You Rather Be?"][/caption] Pacer or Chaser?  No, not a basketball team or even a car but how you would describe yourself as a runner. So do you ever find yourself driving and see a car with a 26.2 sticker on it and you try to catch it and pass  it?  Walking into the grocery store, and you feel yourself racing the person next to you to get in the store? Last night as I did one of my dreaded taper runs I was trying to keep it at an easy pace and then it ...

Ironman Texas Training is pretty close to half-way done I guess.  The race is on May 19th and if we include two weeks of taper for it that means that means that 12 weeks out of 23 are done.  That is nuts and awesome at the same time.  I have been pulling myself back a lot to remember that 70.3 San Juan is this weekend and that my focus needs to be on that race and not what lies ahead in The Woodlands. This past week was a low volume week as taper kicked in over the weekend with a lot less time training (4 hours total on the weekend which ...

As if on command, they have started.  What is they? They are the nightmares and bad dreams of triathlon.  Last year before 70.3 California the dream and nightmares I had read so much about did not happen to me.  Maybe because I did not know what to expect in that first race but they never occurred.  Prior to 70.3 Austin I had one bad dream but I could never remember it in full detail. When I first started training for Ironman Texas I had a dream in which my cousin's husband, who lives in New York still, was racing the event.  I don't th...

[caption id="attachment_5448" align="alignright" width="225" caption="Can You Gain Success Through Failure?"][/caption] Yesterday I was driving to an appointment with a client and was listening to sports talk radio.  I love listening to the Dallas Sports Talk because these people are crazy about their sports.  People say that New Yorkers are nuts and passionate about their sports but NYC doesn't hold a candle to those here in Dallas.  First and foremost they care so much about the Cowboys and everything else plays second fiddle.  During ...

Ironman Texas training is 11 weeks down.....I think!  I can't keep track but I think that is the right number.  Last week was a huge week and break through week for me. Training last week took up a total of 17.5 hours of my life and I loved every minute of it.  I am thankful that the zombie apocalypse did not happen until Monday when I could barely move my legs because of the 92 mile ride followed by 30 minute lactate threshold run I did the day before.  That ride was the longest ride of my 'career' and I smiled the entire time.  I was ...

[caption id="attachment_5415" align="alignright" width="259" caption="And I Applaud Them For Doing So"][/caption] I may have become addicted to running and racing, possibly even triathlon.....eggads!!  As I sat on the couch last night – I was trying to remember everything I planned that I needed to do, and realized I planned a doctor appointment for Monday morning. My first thought was not dreading the doctor , it was actually “Oh I can run now!”  My doctor appointment is not scheduled until 9 am and of course now my mind is racing. ...
