I was contacted recently by the PR Firm for Marathon Bar and asked if I would like to sample some and do a review.  Being a sucker for free stuff how could I say no.  I was told it was different from the Marathon Energy and Marathon Protein Bars so why not. The package came with 8 bards (2 of each flavor: Crunchy Multi Grain, Crunchy Chocolate Crisp, Crunchy Honey Graham and Crunchy Trail Mix.)  I also received a fact sheet and a press release. The fact sheet says that the Smart Stuff brand is a healthful snacking solution that provide...

I was asked by Chloe of 321delish.com to write a guest post and I was honored that she would ask.  She and Steph have great information and as they say it is like getting two blogs for one.  I wanted to write about sleep because just a few days after I was asked to write the guest post the topic came up.  I am repurposing the post I wrote for them on my blog since it is a topic that should be discussed.  Here is my post: ==================== [caption id="attachment_3771" align="alignright" width="121" caption="Are these necessary?"][/...

The phrase bigger is better isn't always true.  As a matter of fact in the context I am about to present it can be downright deadly.  You may have guessed by now but I am talking about obesity and the damage it does to our population.  I have presented to you stats that showcase what it costs the country in terms of health care, but how about $15 billion?  Does that have any impact on you and does that open your eyes at all to the true cost of this epidemic. As a salesperson I sometimes sell by using FUD.  Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt. ...

I love Twitter I cannot lie.  I find out so much information on Twitter from friends and how they are doing to conversations regarding GMOs and eating healthy.  It is a treasure trove of information.  The downside is I can find myself glued to HootSuite for hours and have to pull myself away from the laptop to just get grounded. One of the greatest things about Twitter though is that people say and post things that you would never have seen or heard had you not been on Twitter.  The other day I was reading some tweets and ac...

It has been nearly three weeks since I was nominated for this post and I am finally getting around to it.  Life has been a whirlwind in the past two weeks and I just kept pushing it off and pushing it off.  Finally I made the decision to sit down and get this done and schedule it for the future (so I am writing this on Friday the 19th.) [caption id="attachment_3679" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Is there a better age grouper picture out there?"][/caption] This is not like the other blogger chain letters that go around asking q...

A few months ago I was contacted by Bull Publishing about reviewing the book Nutrition Periodization for Athletes by Bob Seebohar and I could not turn down the opportunity to review the book.  Just the words nutrition and athletes in the title alone led me to saying yes before the question was finished being asked. Once I got the book I couldn't wait to read it and all of this excitement was based on Bob Seebohar's resume.  Read Bob's resume right here: Bob Seebohar, M.S., R.D., C.S.S.D., C.S.C.S., is one of the first Board Certified Sp...

[caption id="attachment_3736" align="alignright" width="220" caption="Which Advice Is Best and Which Advice Do you Listen To?"][/caption] While waiting for what I hope will be the people who buy my house to cruise through and look through all my stuff (selling a house might be the worst thing you ever have to do in life) I was perusing the interwebs and stumbled across a piece in Triathlete.com titled What's The Best Training Advice You've Ever Received? There were some good ones on there and they all made me want to get back out and trai...

I make no secret about the fact that I want to race in the World Championships at Kona someday.  When that day comes I haven't got a clue.  It might happen in May or it may happen when I cross into the 80-84 Age Group but the dream exists.  Every year I watch the World Championship, even before I took up this lifestyle, and thought how amazing it would be to race in the event.  The history, the battle, the camaraderie, the event itself has always intrigued me and so when I say I want to race there someday it is more than just a bucket l...

As many of you know I am raising fund for Shape Up America! to help fight obesity by teaching people about healthy weight management which incorporates diet and exercise.  Since launching this fund-raiser approximately two weeks ago you, my readers, have donated $734.05  I know that there is another $100 coming in the form of checks and I have some fund raisers in mind to help push this number higher.  When I announced this initiative I asked for $14 (or 5 cents per mile racing in Ironman events between now and May 19th) per person and that ...
