  • Athlete's Plate

Yesterday the Athlete's Plate went on hiatus but I had asked a question about what type of pizza I should make for my date night with Karen.  The winner was Kale and Mozzarella, which I discovered from this recipe on Marcus Samuelsson's site. After putting together the post from yesterday I had the idea that I should actually take pictures of what I ate during the day and create my own personal Athlete's Plate to share with you. Please keep in mind my training load when looking at what I am eating.  If you are training less or more tha...

I am really excited about showcasing this menu today because it is for a blogger who is a superb athlete who does not hide from sweating or eating.  In all honesty the blog could be called Sweat, Eat, Sweat More, Keep Eating and it would hit the nail on the head. The times that this blogger can put up will make you stare in awe.  Speed just seems to come out of every pore, followed by some carb loading (although I believe that is to be done before hand right?)  The posts that are written are funny and leave you with a question to...

The Athlete's Plate menu is taking the week off this week.  I have been running on fumes for the past few days because of the workouts that my coach has been putting me through and work has been a killer, but this has been a great week. If you follow me on Twitter you will know that on Wednesday I did 4+ hours of training with 2800y of swimming followed by 1 hour of running and topped off with 2 hours of cycling.  I did it all before work so I could enjoy my day working and not worry about getting in that last workout.  By 6pm on...

My sweet tooth has been raging since last Thursday.  How do I know it was Thursday?  It is because I was so beat after the Disco Triathlon and had no recovery with a full week of training that on Thursday I collapsed.  I took a nap mid-day and when I woke up there wasn't a food I did not want to consume.  I found my step-sons M&Ms and those poor little candies did not stand a chance.  I woke up in the middle of the night and went and took out the Nutella and spread it on thick onto a banana.  My body was cravin...

Today's nominee is somebody that I have a lot of respect for.  I have exchanged a number of emails with this person prior to the nomination so I was excited when Allison sent me the email.  This blogger is fast, and I mean fast.  He has qualified for Boston and I believe he can go faster because he works at his craft.  He does not take his ability for granted and keeps working at it and I admire that. This week's Athlete's Plate is in honor of Jim Weatherly of 50 after 40. Breakfast #1 (Pre-Workout) - The Natural Peanut But...

I hope you like the new logo.  Rita Barry of Fitblogger did a great job and I cannot thank her enough.  A quick not to let you know that I am the Food/Nutrition Editor of Fitblogger so if you have a post that you want featured on the site please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. When I was a kid my mother made shepherd's pie for the family.  Being a Puerto Rican family this was far reaching for us, and when I saw it I immediately told my mother I am not eating THAT.  That upset her so and I wouldn't blame her if she never cooked for me again from that point, but being the greatest mother in all the land she kept feeding me. Fortunately for me, I got brave and ordered it at an Irish Pub one day and absolutely loved it.  I could not wait for a friend to ask about going out to eat and I would suggest a plac...

The Athlete's Plate is getting a facelift.  Rita Barry of Fitblogger has created a new logo for the Athlete's Plate and I am excited about it.  So take a look above and get a glimpse of the last time you will see that old logo, then look down and check out our new logo.  It will be resized to be larger but I think it captures the essence of this site with the swim, bike, run on top of the plate.  Perfection.  By the way, Rita also designed our Team Angels and Ninjas logo so please visit her site and also fi...

Our new logo is still being worked on so that it can be shown bigger than the size you saw last week.   This week I am happy to present an Athlete's Plate to somebody who has his priorities in order, from my perspective.  This blogger, nominated by Barbie, is a runner who practices yoga.  He is also into kayaking and camping, but it doesn't end there.  He is a recycler, gardener, energy conserver plus he likes espresso.  I was very impressed when I was going through his site because everything that is preached he prac...

We took off last week but we are back this week and as they say....better than ever.  This week's athlete was brought to my attention by one of my Charlie's Angels and that is KC of 140 Point 6 Miles...of Awesome! No, she is not the unabomber but is da bomb when it comes to keeping me on my toes.  My Wife (@theladybaha on Twitter), Coach C (@irunitri on Twitter) and KC keep me in line with my training, my eating, motivation and inspiration.  They say jump I jump then ask questions. So KC brought me an athlete that I had never hea...

I am super excited to bring today's Athlete's Plate to you because of who it is for.  This athlete, and yes she is an athlete, is a source of true inspiration for me.  Her blog was one of the first for me to read.  I have to admit I was a tad intimidated at first.  You see when you open her site the music just starts blaring and pumping and my heart rate soared to Zone 3 immediately.  Then you start reading that she stop counting her marathons after 30 or so.  You continue to read and she decided in Decem...

am back from my hiatus and ready to tackle this week's version of The Athlete's Plate.  When BDD sent me his nomination I was super excited because this blogger is one that I have been following for some time and she is a member of TAAN (Team Angels and Ninjas.)  I have learned so much from this blogger and in all honesty this is the least I can do. This blogger and I have exchanged emails before and we are in the process of trying to secure my wife and I a trip to see her on Thanksgiving so that we can run in her Turkey Trot. &...

The Athlete's Plate Challenge is back and this time we are showing off Mexican cuisine.  Matt (The Athlete's Plate) and I wound up choosing breakfasts to create and we both have ties to Dallas.  This could have been called the Dallas Tex-Mex Breakfast Challenge, but we will just stick to Battle Mexican Cuisine. Matt has created Huevos Rancheros that you can check out [HERE] but only after you check out my Mexican Breakfast Tower. My inspiration for this dish came from watching the Food Network one day and seeing Bobby Flay create a ...

This week it is my pleasure to bring to you The Athlete's Plate catered to Jessica of Blond Ponytail.  Jessica was nominated by Amanda, whose menu can be found here. I have been following Jessica's blog for about a month or so and I can tell you that she is the definition of cool.  She is a three sport athlete who played softball at Stanford.  Yes, that Stanford....the Cardinal (you know the school whose mascot is a tree and is not plural and has nothing to do with the bird.)  I don't get it but maybe Jessica can help ...

  • Athlete's Plate

The Athlete's Plate has the pleasure this week of creating a menu for Amanda from Runninghood.  I had not been to Amanda's site before and when Nora nominated her I was excited to be able to go to another blogger's site and learn. First few things I noticed about Amanda is that she is fast.  Don't believe me?  How about marathon times of 3:32 (Boston) and 3:22 (Napa Valley)!!!  That is some serious speed.  I also noticed that she is a mother of 3, and is currently sitting on 66 posts in 2010 and 66 ...

Our last challenge was Battle Pizza where my vegetarian White Pizza came out victorious.  At that time we asked what type of cooking method you would like to see the next challenge revolve around.  You decided that you wanted to see food being grilled.  In my pre-vegetarian days this would have consisted of throwing a steak on the grill and adding a number of sides to it. With my switch to being a vegetarian I had to think about how I was going to grill.  I could easily just grill vegetables, but that isn't what you come to...

The Athlete's Plate is back from its hiatus.  As you now know we have launched a new channel on YouTube and it is titled CTER TV.  We are thrilled to have been able to secure a studio and hoping that we can present The Athlete's Plate on our channel in the future.  Unfortunately time got the better of us this week and we could not reserve enough studio time so we are going with our old fashioned method of listing our items for you. Today's menu has been created for Nora over at Mama Runs Barefoot.  Nora is just plain awesom...

Two announcements to make prior to unveiling the newest version of The Athlete's Plate. Matt's Sweet Potato dish won the 2nd battle in The Athlete's Plate Challenge (seriously people what do I have to do to get you to vote for me?) There was a tie in the voting for the next battle so we have decided to make pizza. (I'm from NY originally so this should be a winner for me right...vote!) --------------------------------------------------- This week's version of The Athlete's Plate is in honor of Heather of Crazy World Of A Running Mo...

  • Athlete's Plate

This week’s Athlete’s Plate is brought to you in honor of the great MissZ.  I have been following her for quite some time now and her posts are always spot on.  She speaks her mind but does not insult.  She informs and is willing to discuss her opinion but not force it on you and that is one reason I keep going back to her site (plus I have won two giveaways with her as the host.) Another reason is that she has always been one of the first people to comment on any post of mine and again shares her thoughts and o...

First allow me to say Thank You to Matt over at The Athlete's Plate for being a guest chef last week.  In case you missed Matt's creations be sure to click [HERE] to get a glimpse into how Matt fuels his body for training. Two weeks ago The Sean's menu was up and he ran a random.org contest to determine who the next version of The Athlete's Plate would be based on.  The winner was Adrienne Jensen of Non Race Runner as well as Travis and Adrienne Jensen Family.  I scoured both of her blogs and it was tough to come up with a ...
