Where We Are Today

As many of you know I am raising fund for Shape Up America! to help fight obesity by teaching people about healthy weight management which incorporates diet and exercise.  Since launching this fund-raiser approximately two weeks ago you, my readers, have donated $734.05  I know that there is another $100 coming in the form of checks and I have some fund raisers in mind to help push this number higher.  When I announced this initiative I asked for $14 (or 5 cents per mile racing in Ironman events between now and May 19th) per person and that I would need 1,429 people to donate.  With the amount that we have raised I now need 1,376 (without the additional $100 to come) to raise the $20,00 at $14 per person.  Thank you.  I am overwhelmed by your generosity and I hope that you will spread the word about this fund raiser and direct them to the donation page which can be found [HERE] The page will look just like the information below but will include a progress meter as well.  Keep checking back to see how far we have come and how close we are to raising $20,000. ============================= I have dedicated myself to raising funds for Shape Up America!  Shape Up America! was founded in 1994 and is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization committed to raising awareness of obesity as a health issue and to providing responsible information on healthy weight management. Take a journey through our website to find information and ideas to achieve a healthy weight for you and your family. If you are a health professional, you will find resources to assist your clients and patients with their efforts to attain and maintain a healthy weight. shape_up_america_fundraising Through my racing I have set a goal to raise $20,000 by May 19, 2012.  May 19, 2012 is a special date for me as that is the day that I will be racing my first Ironman, which is going to be Ironman Texas in The Woodlands, Texas.  In addition to that I will be racing two 70.3 Ironman events with one in Austin, Texas (October 23rd) and the other in Puerto Rico (March 18.) The total distance I will be racing between these three events is 281.2 miles.  I am asking, if you can, to donate a minimum of 5 cents per mile or a total of $14.  If I can get 1,429 people to donate $14 by May 19, 2012 I not only would have reached my goal but I would also have helped to educate the American public on why diet and exercise is so important. Below are some of the costs associated with obesity and why this is such an important topic to tackle immediately.  If you wish to donate you can click the donate button below:

About the Author:

I grew up in New York and lived there for 34 years until I got divorced and moved 1600 miles to my new home in Texas.  I love New York and miss it but that does not mean that Texas hasn’t been great to me because it has.  It was here that I discovered endurance sports and specifically the sport of triathlon.  Triathlon has given me new life through all the challenges it presents.  I no longer look at life the same way and I can say that is in part due to my endeavor into this sport.
