[caption id="attachment_979" align="alignleft" width="150" caption="Did you know that EMZ has a belt buckle too?"][/caption] If you are an avid (or just show up every now and again) reader of this site you know that I have been looking for race reports to post.  The reason I am looking for race reports is that the title of this blog is Cook Train Eat RACE and I tend to race 12 times per year so that would mean it would be Cook Train Eat race.  So with that being said I had the opportunity to meet David Carder at a Starbuck's to discuss ult...

Please continue to submit your race reports through our Contact Me form and we will schedule the post and inform you of when the post will go live.  We have had some great responses so far and we would like to continue that success. This race report is from Jim Weatherly of 50 after 40.  If you have never been to Jim's blog you are truly missing out and I don't say that lightly.  Each and every time I go to Jim's site it inspires me to be better today than I was yesterday and even better tomorrow than I was today.  His signature line is ...

Unless you have been going through the site and found the Race Results 2011 you would not have known that I was racing this weekend as I have not spoken about it. The reason I did not speak about it is that I wasn't sure how I was going to approach this race.  Was I going to approach it as a long run or was I going to race it. When Coach C put out the schedule for the week it showed a long run on Saturday of 1 hour and 50 minutes.  I texted her and asked if I was not supposed to race and just run at that pace.  She told me to race it ...

I have been asking around to get some race reports onto the site and a friend of mine has obliged.  Jeff Bennett is an Ironman who also happens to be a friend of my wife and I.  We typically turn to him with questions and really at the end of the day for laughs.  He might be the funniest guy on the planet.  Jeff recently raced Ironman Cozumel and was happy to provide me with his race report so that I can post it on the Cook Train Eat Race site for you to read.  Thank you to Jeff and I hope you enjoy his report. If you want your race repor...

Yesterday was the first race of the year for me and I had a goal time and pace from Coach.  The goal was to run a sub 1:10:00 for the 15k with a pace around 7:30/mile.  As I mentioned on Friday I looked up the times from 2010 and a 7:30/mile pace would put me around 4th/5th and that is a great way to start the year I thought. Friday January 7th:  Friday is a rest day from my training and I have difficulty watching my food intake on this day because I tend to eat as if I am training and burning calories.  I took this into account this Fri...

In this world of endurance sports even our best efforts lead to lessons learned so that we can continue to get better.  That is the circle we live in.  We train to race, then after the race we evaluate what we can improve upon during our training so that we can race again. For a moment while on the course of the Dallas White Rock Marathon when I realized that the 3:29 goal was fading fast I thought to myself this sucks, I am not going to get to my time.  This goal came about on November 22 so I had two weeks to focus on this one item.  T...

REFLECTIONS WITH MY RACE REPORT FROM RnR SAN ANTONIO 2009This weekend is the anniversary of my wife's first 1/2 marathon.  We ran it in Healdsburg, California and I used it as a training run and to pace her.  I was training for my first marathon which was going to be in in San Antonio and was the Rock-N-Roll San Antonio.  So with this weekend on my mind I thought I would post my race report.I have learned so much from this race and am fired up to go sub-4:00 this time around if not in the 3:40 range.  And the beauty was t...

This weekend has been a celebration of Karen's parents 50th wedding anniversary.  It has been such a pleasure to see the entire family and hang out and hear stories of the past.  The one down side to the weekend has been all the eating.  Eating big meals and dessert every night has been brutal.  I have eaten more sugar in the past three days then I think I have eaten in about a year.  I am putting my foot down on eating habits starting this morning.  No more eating as if I am going to never eat again.  Back to fruit and fiber and I have ...

I had one of those days where everything came together for me on the race course.  I finished 9th out of 36 in my age group and 66 out of 312 which doesn't seem very good considering I was 2nd in my age group at Grapevine, but in the end this was a better result for me as I had PRs in all the disciplines. My swim time was just out of this world for me.  I did the 300m swim in 5:34 which equates to 1:51/100m or 1:41/100y.  If you have followed this blog at all you will know that I am a 2:00/100y swimmer and to eclipse that by 19 seconds/10...
